ANT'S AIRPLANES
MSFS 2024 COMPATIBILITY
With the release of MSFS 2024 in November here are some notes on the compatibility of Ant's Airplanes MSFS 2020 aircraft in MSFS 2024.

UPDATES TO MSFS 2020 AIRCRAFT FOR MSFS 2024
The Drifter (Version 1.3), Winjeel (Version 1.3) and Tiger Moth (Version 1.4) have been updated to ensure compatibility with MSFS 2024 as much as possible. The aircraft have all been compiled with the MSFS 2020 compiler and are not MSFS 2024 specific versions. It is planned that in the future there will be MSFS 2024 specific versions but at the moment the MSFS 2024 marketplace is not functional so there is currently no point making MSFS 2024 aircraft.

INSTALLATION FOR MSFS MARKETPLACE USERS
MSFS 2024 should eventually have a message appear that says MSFS 2020 content is available. At this point you should be able to see any aircraft you bought through the MS Marketplace being available in your aircraft selection list. Note that these aircraft will be streamed to your system (just like any other content in MSFS 2024). This means it may take a while for the aircraft to load. Also, once in flight textures may be blurry while the content is still being downloaded.

INSTALLATION FOR OTHER USERS
Download the latest installer from the retailer you bought the aircraft from.

Run the installer. The installer will give the option to install the aircraft package to MSFS 2020 and/or MSFS 2024. Ensure that the folder(s) selected is(are) correct (it should install to the sim's Community folder).

Keep in mind that if you select both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 the installer will install a copy of the aircraft in each sim's Community folder. The aircraft package is exactly the same but just installed in both locations.

By default MSFS 2024 the Community folder will be set to C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages. MSFS 2024 will not give you an option to choose a different installation location for your downloaded content. This can be manually changed though.

Step 1: Create a new folder where you would like your downloaded content to be saved to

Step 2: Open this file in a text editor C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\UserCfg.opt

Step 3: Change the "InstalledPackagesPath" to match the folder you have created. This will be the last line in the UserCfg.opt file. For example: InstalledPackagesPath "T:\FlightSimulator2024". Save the file.

Step 4: Start MSFS 2024. It will create 3 new folders in your content folder, Community, Official2020 and Official2024.

You can now copy any packages from the MSFS 2020 Community folder into the new Community folder. Restart MSFS 2024 and it will read the contents of the Community folder and your aircraft (and any scenery) should be available in MSFS 2024. Because this content is hosted locally you shouldn't have any issues with blurry textures due to MSFS 2024 streaming the content.

Theoretically you could set the UserCfg.opt file to point to the same location as your MSFS 2020 files which would mean you don't have to duplicate files. I have no idea if this is a good idea or not. For example, MSFS 2024 may decide to completely erase whatever is in the existing folder which would could be devastating. Try this at your own risk (and make sure you have backed up everything in the Community and Official folders).

GENERAL COMPATIBILITY ISSUES WITH MSFS 2020 AIRCRAFT IN MSFS 2024
All MSFS 2020 aircraft suffer from the following issues:

- Pilot appearing outside the cockpit when starting a flight at a parking spot. There is currently no method for the developer to set the location the pilot appears with MSFS 2020 aircraft

- Aircraft not available in career mode. Currently there does not appear a method for the developer to make MSFS 2020 aircraft available in MSFS 2024 career mode.

- Aircraft thumbnails not appearing. MSFSF 2024 requires some different thumbnail images but these will not be included with the MSFS 2020 compiler. Theoretically it would be possible to add thumbnails manually by editing the layout.json file but this would take a considerable amount of work.
